picture.post:zoo.trip.09

Ok, here it is, the moment you've all been waiting for. I had to take a break from posting during the past few weeks because I was so busy, but here's the long-awaited zoo trip blog post. It's long, but it's mostly pictures! (Captions are below the pictures)

So, a few weeks ago, Cody, Caleb, John and I went to the zoo for fun. We went around and looked at animals, and did the entire trip without an adult.

Haha, even though this was the last picture, I didn't really want to finish with it, and it sets the mood for the whole trip: HILARIOUS!!! This lady was sleeping in the Metro and I thought she was pretty funny...

Here's a bunch of the animals we saw. This one was something like a dog-bear. Very shaggy looking...(kind of like Josh's hair....jk)

This was an enormous rat!!! (but really cute looking, kind of like a guinea pig)

This tortoise was really funny. The sign said that it just keeps its mouth open like this until a fish (must be a really stupid one) comes through and he just closes his mouth and eats it! It was just posing like this the entire time we were there!

This part was hilarious. I saw the animal in the cage, and I was like "Oh, we just learned about these in science. They're extremely rare, and barely ever seen." Then Caleb was like "look at the sign Sean". I realized that the book was talking about a certain kind of blue one.

A picture of all four of us, with John being his usual happy, smiling self! :D

Every time we got to one of these signs, we started singing "One Way Jesus" with the dance moves. So fun (and I had fun with the editing too)

Ok, so on our way home, we tried to get to a different Metro station than the one we came in on. If we had done it right, it would have been downhill the entire way. However, nobody had a map on us, so we decided to just risk it and see where we came up. It was about an extra hour or so walking, but it was worth it!! We came across some beautiful but slightly strange neighborhoods on the way. Here's some pictures of some of the strange things that we saw. (Occasional PC goes to Cody)

This house was just plain weird. They must be some new-age sort of decorators because their decorating made ZERO sense. Although, some of the stuff was really fun, and very cool!

Ok, still trying to figure this one out. I think it's a shrine of sorts...whatever, it was very strange, and right by the sidewalk!!!

This random little building, or whatever it was, was just randomly painted like this! How fun!? Right in the middle of a city/suburb (really strange mix I know)

After a very long time, asking many people who all had us go a different way, and missing many stations, we finally saw a Metro bus, and we figured that if we followed it, we could find a station. Sure enough, we did end up finding it. We had to celebrate by getting a picture in front of the station.

If you look at the map, you can see that we were supposed to get out of the zoo and go right to the Zoo station. It was just a few blocks away. Instead, we got to the Columbia Heights station on the yellow-line.

Well, even though we got lost, it was totally worth it!! I am so glad we did, because we got to see the coolest places that we never would have found by ourselves!

christian.life

In my devotions today, I came across a few very interesting passages of scripture that I wanted to share.

It starts of in Isaiah 7:14
Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.

Then an interlude, followed by Isaiah 9:2-7
The people walking in darkness
have seen a great light;
on those living in the land of the shadow of death
a light has dawned.

You have enlarged the nation
and increased their joy;
they rejoice before you
as people rejoice at the harvest,
as men rejoice
when dividing the plunder.

For as in the day of Midian's defeat,
you have shattered
the yoke that burdens them,
the bar across their shoulders,
the rod of their oppressor.

Every warrior's boot used in battle
and every garment rolled in blood
will be destined for burning,
will be fuel for the fire.

For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Of the increase of his government and peace
there will be no end.
He will reign on David's throne
and over his kingdom,
establishing and upholding it
with justice and righteousness
from that time on and forever.
The zeal of the LORD Almighty
will accomplish this.

These verses struck me for a number of reasons.

The first was that Isaiah was writing hundreds of years BEFORE Jesus was born. I know that we've all heard these verses in Handel's "Messiah", but if you really look at this, it's incredible how accurate it is. So accurate, that the Gospels quote these very verses after Jesus was born, showing the fulfillment of them.

The second reason is just how cool they are!! Look at what Jesus did! Look at who He is!! He's a Councilor for when we need advice, when we're angry, he's our Prince of Peace, when we're lonely, he's our EVERLASTING Father, when we're scared or unsure of the future, he is the Mighty God!!!

Please feel free to expound/find more amazing truths from this passage.

friday.funnies

Jesus and Satan were having an on-going argument
about who was better on the computer.
They had been going at it for days, and
frankly
God was tired of hearing all the bickering.

Finally fed up, God said, 'THAT'S IT! I have had enough.
I am going to
set up a test that will run for two hours, and from those
results, I will judge who does the better job.'

So Satan and Jesus sat down at the keyboards and typed away.

They moused.

They faxed.

They e-mailed.

They e-mailed with attachments.

They downloaded.

They did spreadsheets!

They wrote reports.

They created labels and cards.

They created charts and graphs.

They did some genealogy reports

They did every job known to man.

Jesus worked with heavenly efficiency and Satan was
faster than hell.

Then, ten minutes before their time was up, lightning
suddenly flashed across the sky, thunder rolled, rain poured,
and, of course, the
 power went off.

Satan stared at his blank screen and screamed every
curse word known
 in the underworld.

Jesus just sighed..
Finally the electricity came back on, and each of them
restarted
 their computers.
Satan started searching frantically, screaming:

It's gone! It's all GONE! 'I lost everything when the power
went out!'

Meanwhile, Jesus quietly started printing out all of his files
from the past two hours of work.

Satan observed this and became irate.

'Wait!' he screamed. 'That's not fair! He cheated!

How come he has all his work and I don't have any?'

God just shrugged and said,

'JESUS SAVES'

sick...so.very.sick

Hey, this is just a quick prayer request...

Today, I was sick with a 103 fever all day...meaning that in addition to being sickly, I had to miss two classes, and a "field trip" of sorts that I've been wanting to go on for many years...If I stay sick tomorrow, I'll have to miss another class, and a party that I've been looking forward to for a while now...so if you guys could just be praying that I would get better soon and to trust the Lord through this, I'd really appreciate it!

Update: I'm on the mend now, and just have a slight residual cough! Thank you so much for praying. It was only a couple of days, and it gave an opportunity for my whole family to catch up with each other, even if by uncomfortable means! Thanks again!

making.dinner.with.the.linn's

Ok, so Cody and I went to the Linn's to play Wii (an on-going battle between Jo-jo and Cody with Wii boxing), and for me and Jo-jo to make dinner. This post is about how NOT to make a meal, and have it turn out anyways!!

  • Have both people come from play practice or trash pick up (preferably both) so that they are very tired
  • Have a recipe (like Broccoli and Cheddar Soup), that doesn't even call for all the ingredients (like broccoli), so you have to make up amounts
  • Have one person who is already on the brink of histarics and waiting for an opportunity to break out laughing uncontrolably
  • Make plenty of mistakes, some of which could include:
Forget to saute your onions and add the flour, so that the bottom can easily burn
Putting in not enough broccoli
Putting in frozen cheese so that it won't melt all the way, leaving chewy, strange lumps in the soup
Because you have already followed the step about histarics, have that person crack up laughing over nothing while pouring the chicken broth into the pan so that it almost spills on the other person
  • Then serve, and have everyone enjoy the strange, but delicious, meal!!!!

questions

I'd be interested in knowing one thing that you've learned about God in your devotions recently.

I've been meditating on his faithfulness to me even when I'm weak and shortcoming. He always is there, and gives me hope.

the.lord.of.the.rings.trilogy

A mini-debate with a friend sparked this post:

What do you think about the Lord of the Rings Trilogy?

I don't like it because I feel that J.R.R. Tolken is very longwinded, overly descriptive, confusing, and he drags it on too long. I'm sure this'll light some sparks but I'm interested in what people think to the contrary...
